International Margarita Day
Happy International Margarita Day!
Did you know that tequila (in moderation) is good for your health?
Tequila is a great drink for those that are on specific diets for weight loss, diabetes or just trying to improve their overall health. The natural sugars in agave called agavins are non-digestible so blood sugar levels won't spike. In fact, it can lower glucose levels and increase insulin production. Agavins act like dietary fiber which is known to help people lose weight.
The benefits are endless for your overall digestive system! Fructans which are in the blue agave plant are used to help deliver drugs to the colon to fight diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. Additionally tequila has been known to not only stimulate the appetite but also help with digestion.
Everyone has heard to rest and drink plenty of fluids when you see the doctor for a cold. Did you know that in the 1930’s tequila with lime juice was recommended to help fight off a cold. While it does not necessarily cure the common cold it has been known to help with some of the associated symptoms including opening up one’s mucous membranes in order to improve breathing.
The team at J2 Therapy and Wellness has some favorite tequila based cocktails to share with you in this week’s installment of Jen’s picks!
